History, Horizontal Violence, and Self-Care
Childbirth in a Patriarchal society
“Those who don’t know their history are doomed to repeat it. You have to expose who you are so that you can determine what you need to become.” -Cynthia A. Patterson
This course is designed to examine how we got to where we are today and what we can do to affect change.
This course gives you the modern history of birth, how (among other things) has led to horizontal violence, and how we can start taking care of ourselves in order to heal. The information will be available to you for an indefinite amount of time, and we will constantly add content that supports the core material.
THIS COURSE WILL COVER:
-The History of Birth:
a lecture by Hermine Hayes-Klein. American Attorney and activist. Herman is the founder of Human Rights in Childbirth and is a fierce activist for birthing persons and midwives.
-Horizontal Violence a Roundtable Discussion
Join Gena Kirby and other parent/baby activists as they discuss the reality of horizontal violence and what could be done to resolve it.
-Self Care with
Christy Funk and Gena discuss self care and it’s importance. Doulas are notorious for neglecting their own care and we discuss the why’s of that and how to make real change.
